Columbia University’s premedical chapter of the American Medical Students Association is a student-run organization open to all undergraduate Columbia students. CU AMSA seeks to promote activism on the pre-medical level through increased understanding of our healthcare system. We provide students with the opportunity to increase their awareness of local and global health issues by involving its members in the social, moral, and ethical obligations of the profession of medicine; assisting in the improvement and understanding of world health problems; and creating an interactive and stimulating learning environment that promotes healthy relationships amongst its members. Members are supported in their admissions process to medical school through the establishment of mentoring programs and health-related activities and projects that extend the pre-med experience beyond the classroom.

The Pre-Med Paths website specifically serves CU AMSA's mission to share the experiences and knowledges of its members to the student body at Columbia University.

Can Art Cure Depression?

Depression is a widespread mental health disorder that is inclusive of all regardless of age, sex, background, socioeconomic status, or ethnicity. Throughout history, many artists were believed to be depressed. Poets, such as Sylvia Plath, and painters, such as Francisco Goya, lived with intense anguish; however, it remains uncertain whether art functioned as an emotional outlet or if rather, their art was a physical manifestation of the torment they were experiencing internally. Independent of their exact relationship, depression and art are inextricably linked.
